Light-Activated Cartilage Bonding
We demonstrated a rapid and durable method for joining cartilage surfaces using the photosensitizer verteporfin. Controlled illumination produced strong, stable bonds without compromising surrounding tissue. This approach offers a promising platform for surgical cartilage repair and expands photochemical strategies for integrating engineered and native tissues.
Cartilage-Bone Interfacial Bonding
We developed a photochemical method for bonding cartilage directly to subchondral bone. The technique produced strong, stable interfaces under physiological loading conditions. This innovation opens opportunities for reconstructing osteochondral defects and provides a new paradigm for durable integration in joint repair applications.
